Selecting this item, Drives->Scan Drive, will initiate a directories scan of the highlighted drive. It has the same effect as a LMB single click on a drive letter (double click if the single click option is disabled and a single drive tree is displayed), which is the recommended method to initiate a directories scan.
Occasionally the directory information may not be current, due, for example, to an outside operation adding a directory to the current drive. Rescanning the drive refreshes the directory tree display to include such changes.
A mouse chord in the titlebar of the Directories window will initiate a rescan and directory refresh of the current drive. This action does NOT refresh the content of the Files window.
If a Files window is busy with an operation, rescanning the current drive, or reading a different drive, is permitted and will refresh the directories tree. However, the Files window, if locked by the operation, will not refresh.
The number of directories found during a drive scan, and the speed of the scan, is affected by the settings in the Directories Filter dialog and the Read All Dirs and Faster File Scan options. The directories found are displayed in a tree view in the Directories window.
