Remap

The menu option Drives->Remap is a conditional cascaded menu item used to force a display update of the drives currently mapped by the operating system or to set related remapping options within the application.

The operating system maintains the list of available drives as 'mapped' drives. The drive map may be dynamic and will change as remote or removable drives are connected or disconnected.

In normal operation, the drives displayed are updated (remapped) whenever a different Files window is activated or a drive is rescanned. Therefore, the manual remap function is seldom required. Use it only when there is an indication that the drive list has changed and/or the drive list appears to be incorrect.

There are three submenu items:

  • Manual - Use this option to force an update of the displayed drives. This is always the default action if the user simply clicks Remap.
  • Auto - Checking this option will enable automatic updates of the displayed list based on the occurrence of certain events, typically activation of an internal window. Use of this option is recommended if the system has removable media or network drives.
  • Timed - Checking this option will activate a timed update of the displayed drives. When this item is checked, the user is presented with a dialog window to set the update interval in seconds. Use of this option is recommended if the system has network drives.

The two options settings are also available on page 2_2 of the Settings Notebook. See Remote Drives when using this program on a network.

A mouse chord in the titlebar of the Drives window will invoke both the Refresh Media and the manual remap function.
